Prague, after dark

Cross Club. K5. Cheapest beer in Europe. Legal everything.

Cross Club is a sci-fi techno venue you should see once. Vinohrady has the better cocktail bars. K5 Relax is the legal sauna-club scene that draws weekend visitors from across Europe. The beer halls are exactly as good as everyone says.

Where to stay in Prague

Stay in Vinohrady if you want walking distance to the main district and don't mind paying for it. Žižkov is the mid-range play — ten minutes by transit, better hotels for the money, locals at the bar after midnight. The off-centre option — two transit stops out — costs about half and adds a taxi back after 02:00. Pick the one that matches what you're optimising for.

Before you go to Prague

Verify the price before you order in the tourist-bar belt around Old Town Square. Drink-bill switching is the city's signature scam and the police are unsympathetic.

Carry cash and watch the change. Many adult venues are cash-only; a few notorious ones short-change tourists on the koruna-to-euro mental math at the door.

Metro closes 00:00, night trams run all night. Use Bolt or Liftago after — never the freelance taxis idling near Wenceslas Square. Mandatory metered taxi from a marked stand if you must.

Aggressive 'AAA Taxi' touts near the train station and clip-joint touts on Vodičkova are the two avoidable problems. Pickpockets on the 22 tram are the third.

Tolerant in Prague, patchier nationally. Vinohrady around Vinohradská is the gay anchor — Termax, Friends, Q Café. Same-sex marriage since 2025. Public PDA in the tourist centre is fine; the late-night metro and the suburban tram less so. Trans care available but bureaucratic.

From the field

Spent four nights, learnt the map. The places everyone in the guide says to go are the places everyone goes — the actual scene is one street over and the prices are half. Skip the first place the taxi suggests. The version the locals use is a different night entirely.
